Jazz on the Green
These free concerts feature national and local artists at Omaha's Midtown Crossing every Thursday evening from July to August. Bring blankets, chairs and pets on leashes and enjoy the green grass at Turner Park. The lawn opens for seating at 5 p.m. Pre-show entertainment kicks off at 6:30 and concerts follow at 7:30 p.m.

Seward gets loud each summer when “America’s Small Town Fourth of July City” launches its Independence Day celebration with a celebratory bang. The community’s first observance of the holiday was in 1868. Thousands of chickens raised in Wayne County and surrounding communities lay millions of eggs each year. This important industry is the inspiration for the world-famous Wayne Chicken Show. The July event features plucky contestants imitating barnyard fowl in its National Cluck-Off and challenging their capacity for fun in the hard-boiled egg eating contest. The event heats up with the hot wing-eating competition and cools during the wine tasting.

John C. Fremont Days celebrates the explorer's American frontier expeditions. Nicknamed "Pathfinder," the community of Fremont was named after him. This 3-day festival in July includes a living history encampment at Clemmons Park, arts and crafts, beer garden, rough stock rodeo, food court and a Spam cooking contest. The canned meat product “Spam” was invented in Fremont. Community members at the 2011 Fremont Days event set a world record by building a 1,652-pound Spam sandwich.

Utica, population 900, feeds travelers’ appetite for fun with a hamburger stand, beer garden, live music, dance and car show during its annual Heritage Days celebration in July. Utica is 14 miles west of Seward on Highway 34.
