Quack-Off Duck Races

Avoca’s annual fire department fundraiser is the last Saturday in January during the Quack-Off Duck Races. The ducks race no matter the weather, and even Nebraska blizzards can’t stop 2,000 people from joining the community’s 250 residents. Bring your own racing duck or rent one from the firefighters. Registration is at the Avoca Town Hall. Then the feathers fly at Tefft Tennis Courts.

Swedish Steel

Swedish Steel is the latest event to draw throngs of Swedes to Stromsburg. It is the largest metal art event in Nebraska with more than 30 vendors showing and selling their creations. A blacksmith demonstrates the art of making usable items from iron. Food vendors heat up their own artistic creations. The 2017 Swedish Steel event is scheduled for May 20 in the City Square Park.

Springfield Days

Springfield Days will be bigger than ever this year as the community celebrates Nebraska's sesquicentennial. Ice cream and runza-eating contests, a grand parade, and vendors will return to downtown. Special for this year, there will also be a pie parlor, bingo, children's activities and 1860s-era craft projects like yarn dolls. The Cherokee Ridge Runners, a living history group, will put on demonstrations and reenactments.
