Residents and visitors gather for Broken Bow’s time-honored, traditional Custer County Fair every year. Firearm shooting matches, 4-H livestock challenges, fair food, carnival rides and live entertainment combine for surefire summer fun.

The Lancaster Event Center is the super site of the Lancaster County Super Fair each August. In true fair fashion, visitors are in for a treat with motorsports, music, a carnival, 4-H animal competitions and the most important of all – fair food!

The Cass County Fair in Weeping Water is a classic county fair with children showing hand-raised livestock and gardeners displaying their best produce. Every August the aroma of fried funnel cakes wafts through the air as hot dogs, caramel apples and other fair foods are enjoyed. The need for speed is satisfied with the One Mile Shoot Out event 15 miles south of Callaway in conjunction with the Sandhills Open Road Challenge. The current record for the August event is 224.77 miles per hour, but nobody monitors how fast drivers and spectators take to arrive at the Callaway Community Center for lunch afterwards.

This annual event celebrates Hastings' historic ties to a classic American beverage. Edwin Perkins invented Kool-Aid in Hastings in 1927. Family fun reigns here every August with special visits from the Kool-Aid Man, a parade, a car show and giant inflatable fun houses. A 5K fun run, Kool-Aid Kardboard boat races, Kool-Aid chugging contests and the world’s largest Kool-Aid stand make this one super-sweet summer festival.

This free public event features tables and tables of barbed wire, fencing tools, wire and tool books, historic displays, cowboy art, Western crafts and merchandise. Wire collectors and historic experts will be on hand to talk about all things barbed wire. Bring in your pieces of odd wire or old tools to be identified.
