The small town of 600 residents at Peru swells by approximately 2,500 people every fall when students return to Peru State College. Founded in 1867 as the first college in Nebraska, it began as a teacher training school with one building and 60 students. Peru State College has expanded to a robust and intimate undergraduate and graduate school on a scenic campus on the hills of the Missouri River. The college is nicknamed “Campus of a Thousand Oaks” and is a member of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
