Trenton is a community of 560 residents in central Hitchcock County. Pawnee and Sioux clashed near here in 1873. The Massacre Canyon Monument tells the story of the event. From Trenton, the monument and visitor center are three miles east. Trenton is known for Swanson Reservoir State Recreation Area just west of town at the intersection of highways 25 and 34.
