About 600 residents live in the Hitchcock County community of Culbertson. The town is north of the confluence of Frenchman Creek and the Republican River. It was founded in 1873 as a trading post. Culbertson incorporated in 1885 and for 20 years was the county seat of Hitchcock County. The county seat is now in Trenton, but Culbertson is still known for its historic Stone Church.

Beginning on the south end of Taylor Street is the Twin River Walking Trail, which follows Frenchman Creek through shady trees.
