Chappell is perhaps best known to travelers who see the massive American flag painted on the Frenchman Valley Elevator north of I-80. The 30-acre Chappell Interstate Lake greets visitors just north of Exit 85 and tempts anglers with visions of largemouth bass, channel catfish and other catches.
Right next to the lake where fishermen hook lunkers, bunkers challenge golfers at the nine-hole Chappell Golf Club. Steer clear of the water hazards on holes four and nine. The course is at 1240 Road 167. (308) 874-2729.
