Peru’s biggest event traces its origins back to 1943 when the town banded together to protect itself from rising flood waters. The town celebrates its enduring ingenuity and sense of community with a fish fry, live music, an outdoor movie, pony rides and children’s activities.

Springfield Days will be bigger than ever this year as the community celebrates Nebraska's sesquicentennial. Ice cream and runza-eating contests, a grand parade, and vendors will return to downtown. Special for this year, there will also be a pie parlor, bingo, children's activities and 1860s-era craft projects like yarn dolls. The Cherokee Ridge Runners, a living history group, will put on demonstrations and reenactments.

Jazz on the Green
These free concerts feature national and local artists at Omaha's Midtown Crossing every Thursday evening from July to August. Bring blankets, chairs and pets on leashes and enjoy the green grass at Turner Park. The lawn opens for seating at 5 p.m. Pre-show entertainment kicks off at 6:30 and concerts follow at 7:30 p.m.

Holiday Lights Festival
With a flip of a switch Gene Leahy Mall in Omaha dazzles with more than a million lights Thanksgiving evening. Downtown celebrations in December include outdoor holiday concerts, a temporary ice-skating rink and a family festival with free trolley service and admission to the Durham Museum, the Joslyn Art Museum and other top local attractions.
