Seward’s Fourth of July Celebration
Seward gets loud each summer when “America’s Small Town Fourth of July City” launches its Independence Day celebration with a celebratory bang. The community’s first observance of the holiday was in 1868. Since that first community picnic and anvil firing, the celebration has exploded into a three-day, rain-or-shine spectacular of dozens of events. Kool-Aid Days
This annual event celebrates Hastings' historic ties to a classic American beverage. Edwin Perkins invented Kool-Aid in Hastings in 1927. Family fun reigns here every August with special visits from the Kool-Aid Man, a parade, a car show and giant inflatable fun houses. A 5K fun run, Kool-Aid Kardboard boat races, Kool-Aid chugging contests and the world’s largest Kool-Aid stand make this one super-sweet summer festival.

This free public event features tables and tables of barbed wire, fencing tools, wire and tool books, historic displays, cowboy art, Western crafts and merchandise. Callaway Kite Flight
Seeing a kite cutting through the air one summer day gave lifelong Custer County resident Connie May the lofty idea of starting a kite festival in Callaway. The first Callaway Kite Flight took to the air in 1991. Professional kite fliers, amateurs and other visitors from 21 countries and 29 U.S. states have attended the annual event. Corn is king at this annual festival in Plattsmouth each September. There is a corn-eating contest, quilt show, carnival, photo contest, karaoke, food, music and much more. The corn royalty coronation has been popular since 1935 when Harrison Gayer and Lois Troop Bester were crowned Corn King and Corn Queen.
