Seeing a kite cutting through the air one summer day gave lifelong Custer County resident Connie May the lofty idea of starting a kite festival in Callaway. The first Callaway Kite Flight took to the air in 1991. Professional kite fliers, amateurs and other visitors from 21 countries and 29 U.S. states have attended the annual event. Corn is king at this annual festival in Plattsmouth each September. There is a corn-eating contest, quilt show, carnival, photo contest, karaoke, food, music and much more. Sidney’s Oktoberfest
