Event Navigation

Seeing a kite cutting through the air one summer day gave lifelong Custer County resident Connie May the lofty idea of starting a kite festival in Callaway. The first Callaway Kite Flight took to the air in 1991. Professional kite fliers, amateurs and other visitors from 21 countries and 29 U.S. states have attended the annual event. Giant flying squids, space aliens and other creatures join box kites and traditional diamond-shaped kites for the show. The world’s largest windsock is a repeat visitor. So are kite and food vendors.

The Callaway Kite Flight takes place every Labor Day weekend at the 200-acre Foster Smith Field four miles southeast of Callaway on Highway 40.
