The Lied Platte River Bridge spans the Platte River between South Bend and Louisville like a 1,714-foot secret. The former Rock Island Railroad trestle offers the chance to tread the breadth of the shallow river without getting your feet wet. Opportunities abound for wildlife sightings, fishing, and peaceful strolling and pedaling surrounded by picturesque scenery. The bridge opened in 2002 and is part of an ambitious plan to connect Lincoln and Omaha by trails. Parking is available off Highway 66 on the south side and Highway 31 to the north.
