Boys Town is a community of its own within Omaha with its own police force, fire department, churches, school, post office, cafe, gift shop, tourist attractions, zip code and more than 2,000 employees.

Father Edward Flanagan began caring for wayward boys in Omaha in 1917.  Today, nearly 400 children are full-time Boys Town residents and Flanagan’s mission of saving children and healing families continues.

Flanagan traveled the world spreading his message of providing care and compassion to those in need. His work was immortalized on the silver screen by actor Spencer Tracy in 1938. The Oscar Tracy received for his portrayal of Flanagan is on display in the Boys Town Hall of History. Many special events are planned for Boys Town’s 2017 centennial.
