Arbor Lodge State Historical Park
Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City is where Arbor Day was born. J. Sterling Morton began the tree-planting holiday in 1872. The Morton family’s 52-room mansion is open for tours today and also hosts special events. The historic home is surrounded by a 72-acre park with an arboretum, terraced garden, log cabin, carriage house, walking trails and more than 200 varieties of lilacs.
