Seward gets loud each summer when “America’s Small Town Fourth of July City” launches its Independence Day celebration with a celebratory bang. The community’s first observance of the holiday was in 1868. Since that first community picnic and anvil firing, the celebration has exploded into a three-day, rain-or-shine spectacular of dozens of events.

The fun includes volkswalks, an official flag raising, patriotic speakers, the popular food alley and many vendors. Art exhibits, a carnival, a pet parade, a pancake breakfast, a hot dog feed, a bubble gum chewing contest, a car show, and a military vehicle show at the Nebraska National Guard Museum round out this event. Bring a chair and blanket to Plum Creek Park for the giant fireworks display.
